Home field still carries weight in the CFL, but it has not been enough to turn this version of the Lions into a reliable cover machine. League-wide, home favorites sitting under .300 this season have been far from automatic against mediocre road teams, and BC fits that profile a little too cleanly.

The recent form tells a clearer story than the standings alone. BC has struggled to string together complete games on both sides of the ball and has been vulnerable to giving up leads or failing to finish. Hamilton has been outscored overall, sure, but they have hung around in enough contests to make the plus side interesting. When you look at how large home favorites have performed against .300-to-.400 road clubs in 2026, the cover rate drops off once the number climbs past a touchdown. The expected value on laying 6.5 with this Lions team simply does not jump off the page the way it does in cleaner mismatch spots, especially after the line has already moved against the underdog.

The math is straightforward. A 2-5 home team laying more than a touchdown against a 3-5 visitor creates a break-even threshold that demands a higher win-and-cover rate than BC has delivered so far. Even after adjusting for home-field advantage, the Lions’ inconsistency has produced enough stinkers to make the price feel a little rich. The fact that the number has stretched from the mid-fives into the sixes suggests the market is still buying the home side, yet the underlying form does not fully support that confidence. Hamilton’s ability to stay within one score in several of their losses gives them a realistic path to cashing the ticket, whether by keeping it close or straight-up stealing one if BC has another off night. I like the underdog points here more than I like the favorite. This is the kind of spot where the market sometimes overrates the home team simply because the other side is not lighting the world on fire, and the line movement so far looks more like public steam than informed money. BC has not earned heavy trust at a larger number, and Hamilton has shown just enough resilience to make the plus side attractive. Grab the Tiger-Cats plus the points and let the inconsistency of the Lions do the rest, or wait for a better number if the line keeps drifting. Either way, this does not feel like a spot to hammer the chalk

My selection is on the 'over' between Colorado and St. Louis at 7:15 pm et on Saturday.

Neither team was able to cash in on many scoring opportunities in the opener of this series last night as the early scoring fizzled in a 3-2 Cardinals victory. I won't hesitate to go back to the well with the same play on Saturday, however. The Rockies will send Kyle Freeland to the mound. He's coming off an improbable complete game victory over the Royals last time out. I say improbable as he owns an inflated 4.67 FIP and 1.49 WHIP on the season. While current Cardinals hitters haven't had a lot of success against Freeland, only three of them have seen him more than three times and those three have gone 5-for-19 with four extra base hits. Matthew Liberatore, like Freeland, is a regression candidate here after he turned in six innings of shutout ball against the Blue Jays last time out. Consistency hasn't been his calling card as he owns a 4.64 FIP and 1.49 WHIP on the campaign. Both bullpens are in fairly good shape workload-wise but both are also very hittable. On another hot and humid evening in St. Louis, I expect both teams to take advantage of their opportunities this time around. Take the over (8*).

The recent form tells a clearer story than the standings alone. BC has struggled to string together complete games on both sides of the ball and has been vulnerable to giving up leads or failing to finish. Hamilton has been outscored overall, sure, but they have hung around in enough contests to make the plus side interesting. When you look at how large home favorites have performed against .300-to-.400 road clubs in 2026, the cover rate drops off once the number climbs past a touchdown. The expected value on laying 6.5 with this Lions team simply does not jump off the page the way it does in cleaner mismatch spots, especially after the line has already moved against the underdog.

The math is straightforward. A 2-5 home team laying more than a touchdown against a 3-5 visitor creates a break-even threshold that demands a higher win-and-cover rate than BC has delivered so far. Even after adjusting for home-field advantage, the Lions’ inconsistency has produced enough stinkers to make the price feel a little rich. The fact that the number has stretched from the mid-fives into the sixes suggests the market is still buying the home side, yet the underlying form does not fully support that confidence. Hamilton’s ability to stay within one score in several of their losses gives them a realistic path to cashing the ticket, whether by keeping it close or straight-up stealing one if BC has another off night. League trends this year have shown that soft home favorites in the 6-to-7 range have been vulnerable when the underdog still has some fight left.

I like the underdog points here more than I like the favorite. This is the kind of spot where the market sometimes overrates the home team simply because the other side is not lighting the world on fire, and the line movement so far looks more like public steam than informed money. BC has not earned heavy trust at a larger number, and Hamilton has shown just enough resilience to make the plus side attractive. Neither team was able to cash in on many scoring opportunities in the opener of this series last night as the early scoring fizzled in a 3-2 Cardinals victory. I won't hesitate to go back to the well with the same play on Saturday, however. The Rockies will send Kyle Freeland to the mound. He's coming off an improbable complete game victory over the Royals last time out. I say improbable as he owns an inflated 4.67 FIP and 1.49 WHIP on the season. While current Cardinals hitters haven't had a lot of success against Freeland, only three of them have seen him more than three times and those three have gone 5-for-19 with four extra base hits. Consistency hasn't been his calling card as he owns a 4.64 FIP and 1.49 WHIP on the campaign. Both bullpens are in fairly good shape workload-wise but both are also very hittable. Hamilton getting the points against BC is the lean that actually makes sense on this number, and the 2026 data plus the line movement only reinforce the caution on the home favorite.

The Lions sit at a messy 2-5 and have been one of the more inconsistent teams in the entire league. Hamilton is only 3-5 themselves, but they have shown more fight and have kept games competitive more often than the pure record suggests. The number opened closer to BC -5.5 and has drifted up toward -6.5 to 7, the kind of slow climb you often see when the public leans into the home side without real sharp conviction behind it. Laying six or six and a half with a club that has dropped five of seven already feels soft, and the upward movement has done nothing to make the price more attractive. Home field still carries weight in the CFL, but it has not been enough to turn this version of the Lions into a reliable cover machine. League-wide, home favorites sitting under .300 this season have been far from automatic against mediocre road teams, and BC fits that profile a little too cleanly.

The recent form tells a clearer story than the standings alone. BC has struggled to string together complete games on both sides of the ball and has been vulnerable to giving up leads or failing to finish. Hamilton has been outscored overall, sure, but they have hung around in enough contests to make the plus side interesting. When you look at how large home favorites have performed against .300-to-.400 road clubs in 2026, the cover rate drops off once the number climbs past a touchdown. The expected value on laying 6.5 with this Lions team simply does not jump off the page the way it does in cleaner mismatch spots, especially after the line has already moved against the underdog.

The math is straightforward. A 2-5 home team laying more than a touchdown against a 3-5 visitor creates a break-even threshold that demands a higher win-and-cover rate than BC has delivered so far. Even after adjusting for home-field advantage, the Lions’ inconsistency has produced enough stinkers to make the price feel a little rich. The fact that the number has stretched from the mid-fives into the sixes suggests the market is still buying the home side, yet the underlying form does not fully support that confidence. Hamilton’s ability to stay within one score in several of their losses gives them a realistic path to cashing the ticket, whether by keeping it close or straight-up stealing one if BC has another off night. League trends this year have shown that soft home favorites in the 6-to-7 range have been vulnerable when the underdog still has some fight left.

I like the underdog points here more than I like the favorite. This is the kind of spot where the market sometimes overrates the home team simply because the other side is not lighting the world on fire, and the line movement so far looks more like public steam than informed money. BC has not earned heavy trust at a larger number, and Hamilton has shown just enough resilience to make the plus side attractive. Grab the Tiger-Cats plus the points and let the inconsistency of the Lions do the rest, or wait for a better number if the line keeps drifting. Either way, this does not feel like a spot to hammer the chalk

Neither team was able to cash in on many scoring opportunities in the opener of this series last night as the early scoring fizzled in a 3-2 Cardinals victory. I won't hesitate to go back to the well with the same play on Saturday, however. The Rockies will send Kyle Freeland to the mound. He's coming off an improbable complete game victory over the Royals last time out. I say improbable as he owns an inflated 4.67 FIP and 1.49 WHIP on the season. While current Cardinals hitters haven't had a lot of success against Freeland, only three of them have seen him more than three times and those three have gone 5-for-19 with four extra base hits. Matthew Liberatore, like Freeland, is a regression candidate here after he turned in six innings of shutout ball against the Blue Jays last time out. Consistency hasn't been his calling card as he owns a 4.64 FIP and 1.49 WHIP on the campaign. Both bullpens are in fairly good shape workload-wise but both are also very hittable. On another hot and humid evening in St. Louis, I expect both teams to take advantage of their opportunities this time around. Take the over (8*).

Tigers vs Giants MLB Free Pick

The Angle(s): San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (7-10, 4.34 ERA) has allowed nine runs over 8 1/3 frames over his last two starts, and the over is 6-1 in his last seven starts. Roupp's recent command struggles (including four walks in his last start) combined with Oracle Park's late-afternoon conditions can lead to big innings when elevated pitch counts force early bullpen usage.

The Detroit Tigers' bats have been streaky, but they're averaging 8.1 runs per nine innings over their last 10 games, and odds are they'll hit Roupp hard. Highly touted prospect Jackson Jobe (4-1, 4.22 ERA in 2025) takes the ball for the Tigers for his first outing of the season and 13th big league appearance ever. Detroit will be on a strict pitch count with their young starter. Expecting 3 to 4 innings at most puts heavy pressure on the Tigers' middle relief, increasing late-game scoring opportunities for San Francisco.

The Giants have gone over the total in 6 of their last 8 home games against American League opponents.

We really like the road team in this matchup. The Blue Jays enter on a solid stretch after opening this series with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Philadelphia on Friday night, giving them plenty of momentum heading into Game 2. 

The Blue Jays give the ball to veteran RHP Max Scherzer (1-4, 7.92 ERA), while Philadelphia counters with RHP Aaron Nola (3-9, 5.55 ERA).
