Best NFL Straight Up Picks Week 6 2021
Buccaneers vs. Eagles
Both of these teams have had some rough games this season but the Eagles have gotten flat out embarrassed on a couple of occasions. I love Jalen Hurts and believe that he should continue to be their starter but this team has so many more issues than just finding a consistent quarterback. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has Tom Brady and one of the most loaded offenses that the league has ever gotten to see in history. I think it should go without saying but the Buccaneers should win this game on the road.
Dolphins vs. Jaguars
This is going to be interesting. The Dolphins have struggled on both sides of the ball quite a bit this season and a lot of that can be attributed to Tua Tagovailoa getting hurt. Jacoby Brissett has been a solid stand in but he hasn’t won them any games. The Jaguars on the other hand have Trevor Lawrence and James Robinson to put points up on the board. Talent wise I think that the Jaguars could be the better team and end up defeating them in a shootout type of game. However, the Dolphins are a far better coached football team with all of these allegations circling Urban Meyer. Give me the Dolphins.
Bengals vs. Lions
The Bengals have gone above everybody’s expectations ahead of the season but they aren’t the best team around still. Neither are the Lions though, as they can’t seem to win consecutive games…or any games for that matter. Looking at overall talent and potential I think the Bengals have way more than Detroit does right now. Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase has formed a formidable duo while Jared Goff doesn’t have an established number one wideout on his roster to work with. Not to mention the Cincinnati defense has been leaps and bounds better than Detroit’s. The Bengals should be taking a win in this game.
Chiefs vs. Football Team
This one isn’t going to need much explaining. The Chiefs may have struggled to start their new season but they still have one of the most talented offenses in the league. Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are all going to cause problems to a Washington Football Team defense that honestly hasn’t been that good. Despite high expectations, they are statistically one of the worst groups in the league and are definitely going to struggle to contain Mahomes and company. Kansas City should take this one handily.
Texans vs. Colts
I was pleasantly surprised with the Texans at the start of the year but once Tyrod Taylor went down it looks like all of their hope vanished along with it. Rookie quarterback Davis Mills is good, but doesn’t really have that IT factor that you would like in a quarterback right now. Let’s face it, the Colts don’t really have that in Carson Wentz right now either. But a lot of that is to blame on an often-injured offensive line that is not giving him enough time. Jonathan Taylor is starting to break out and their defense is clicking a little bit. Houston is rebuilding at the end of the day; they aren’t going to be looking to win this game. The Colts are the better team with the better coaching staff.
Rams vs. Giants
The Giants shocked a lot of people with their huge win over the Saints a couple of weeks ago. Saquon Barkley finally got some room to operate and Daniel Jones looked like the second coming of Tom Brady for a little bit. Their defense still has a way to go but it was impressive all around. Unfortunately, they get the Rams this weekend. Matthew Stafford has been dominating all year and looks to have this team in the Super Bowl in February. Unless Jones pulls out some late game heroics, this might be a Los Angeles blowout win.
Chargers vs. Ravens
I am super excited for this game. The Chargers have been playing some of their best football in recent years. Justin Herbert is settling in as their franchise quarterback and he has a ton of weapons to work with like Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler and Mike Williams. Defensively, they have Joey Bosa and Derwin James who are two of the most dangerous playmakers at their respective positions. On the other side we have the Ravens. You know a game is always electric when Lamar Jackson takes the field but this defense has been inconsistent to say the least. Last year I would have taken the Ravens without question but there just seems to be something different about the Chargers right now. Give me them due to Herbert and their passing attack.
Packers vs. Bears
This game entirely depends on what quarterback we see from Chicago. The Green Bay Packers are a strong overall team and with Aaron Rodgers leading the charge they are a far better group than the Bears. We have seen some flashes of brilliance from Chicago when Justin Fields was the starting quarterback but that seems to fade away when Andy Dalton comes back onto the field. For some reason Matt Nagy loves Dalton and refuses to let Fields spread his wings. If Dalton is in this game then the Packers likely blow the doors off them at home but Fields could at least make this game competitive. Either way, Rodgers is not leaving without a win.
Vikings vs. Panthers
The Vikings have had some horribly inconsistent performances this year. Same goes for the Panthers. Minnesota seems to live and die by their running back, Dalvin Cook, and when he gets injured their whole game plan slowly starts to fade away. Just like how the Panthers were blown out by Dallas when Christian McCaffrey was out. Carolina has a far better defense but the Vikings have more offensive weapons at their disposal. The Panthers are going to be the favorites here due to their success in 2021 but I don’t know, I just have that feeling that the Vikings could be serious upset candidates here. This may not be a popular move but I’ll roll with Minnesota here, probably for the first time this season.
Cardinals vs. Browns
The Game of the Week for sure. The Cardinals and Browns will provide the NFL community with an unbelievable amount of offensive talent. Kyler Murray vs. Baker Mayfield. DeAndre Hopkins vs. Odell Beckham Jr. I mean, it really doesn’t get any better than this. Murray and the rest of this Arizona offense has been on a different level this year, and their defense has picked up on that by stifling opposing offenses. Cleveland has had a bit more trouble overall than Arizona but their dynamic backfield of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt always give them a chance to win the game. Personally, I feel like the Cardinals have a loss coming their way soon and I see the Browns being the team to pull that off. Cleveland just has to dominate time of possession, something that shouldn’t be too hard with that backfield.
Raiders vs. Broncos
Surprisingly these two teams have a chance at winning the division. Most people forget that both the Raiders and Broncos have played great football this year. Las Vegas has done well behind the MVP caliber play of Derek Carr. We can’t forget about their massive improvement defensively also despite having wildly undersized cornerbacks. Denver hasn’t had nearly the offensive success that the Raiders have had and admittedly played bad teams to start their year but this defense is legit. Teddy Bridgewater could help keep the ball in their possession and conservatively lead them to a win. However, I don’t see that happening against an explosive Raiders team that loves pushing the ball down the field. Even if Drew Lock ends up playing, the Raiders should win this game.
Cowboys vs. Patriots
The Cowboys have surprised me to be honest. I didn’t know how Dak Prescott was going to play in his return but he has been phenomenal. It also looks like Ezekiel Elliott has returned to his old form after a bad 2020 season. Probably the biggest jump was their defense, they went from one of the worst in the league to one of the best seemingly overnight. New England has improved overall as well but I don’t feel confident thinking that Mac Jones will outduel Prescott in a shootout. Dallas should win this game.
Seahawks vs. Steelers
I don’t even know what to say about either of these teams. You just never know what you are going to get from them on any given day. The Seahawks offensive talent is definitely there, with Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf, Chris Carson and Tyler Lockett. However, their defense is one of the worst in the league statistically speaking and cornerback Tre Flowers can’t defend anybody. The opposite can be said about Pittsburgh. Even though their offensive talent is there, Ben Roethlisberger and this horrible offensive line is holding them back. Their defense is exceptional but it doesn’t matter when you average the 28th lowest number of points per game. It could be a high scoring game but one that I think the Seahawks will win.
Bills vs. Titans
Maybe at the beginning of this season I would have thought differently but the Bills are going to smoke the Titans here. Buffalo has had two games where they won by a combined score of 75-0. That defense is for real and Josh Allen is scoring points at the same rhythm he was in last season. Meanwhile, the Titans were whooped multiple times this season and even lost to the New York Jets! They do have Derrick Henry and Julio Jones but their defense is so bad that I don’t see them slowing down Buffalo at all nevertheless stopping them completely. Allen leads his Bills to a win here.
